During the process of fusing glass, pieces of compatible glass are fired in a kiln at a temperature of 1400 to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit until they are red-hot and melt together. The glass is then fired a second time at a slightly lower temperature to slump into the desired shape and then annealed (a slow cooling process). In each firing, astonishing and unique patterns are formed. | |||

![]() | Judaica Glossary Click a word to go to Wikipedia dot org for more information. Dreidel : A toy similar to a spinning top used in games of chance played by children and adults at Hanukkah. Dreidels usually contain four hebrew letters, NGHP which stand for the phrase "a great miracle happened here". Menorah : A seven or nine-branched candelabrum used in celebration of Hanukkah. Mezuzah : (plural, mezuzot) A container for a small parchment scroll of Torah verses affixed to doorposts as a sign of faith. The scroll is inscribed with the biblical passages Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and 11:13-21 and marked with the word Shaddai, a name of the Almighty. Seder : The feast commemorating the exodus of the Jews from Egypt, celebrated on the first night or the first two nights of Passover. The seder plate is used at the passover meal, placed in the center of the table holding foods symbolic of passover. Shofar : A trumpet made of a ram's horn, sounded in the synagogue during Rosh Hashanah and at the end of Yom Kippur. Originally it was blown by the ancient Hebrews during religious ceremonies and as a signal in battle. The expert who blows (or "blasts" or "sounds") the shofar is termed the Ba'al Tokea (lit. "Master of the Blast"). Yad : Pointer used to follow the passage being read from the Torah. It is forbidden to touch the text with the hand. | |||
