Mayra Orama Muņiz has created a line of jewelry that reflects growing up in New York City and her last five years living in Puerto Rico. Many landscapes have inspired her, from modern industrial cities to the tropical rain forests of Puerto Rico. Using exotic hardwoods as an expression of life in organic moving forms, the miniature sculptures Muņiz creates combine richly textured woods with cool metals. Her forms hint at the natural flowing beauty of the lush green mountains of Utuado and the pristine white sand beaches of Vega Baja. She is influenced by Asian art and the sculpture of Henry Moore, and drawn to creating balance and movement in the organic forms that comprise her work. Muņiz is self taught and wishes to remain so. <= back to Mio Studio Design |
