The Affirmation Series began several years ago when artist Kate McPhee made a tiny painting on wood and hand-framed it in copper as a wedding gift for some friends. The painting seemed to capture many of Kate's greatest inspirations: Persian miniatures, medieval manuscript illustrations, and tarot cards. After reading about the cordel artists of Brazil, who create small woodcut prints with verse and sell them in the rural marketplaces, Kate had the idea to make her small paintings into prints in order to reach a larger public. Her prints are very high quality digital reproductions that are framed in a handmade soldered copper frame, under glass. Each print is signed by the artist. The print itself is 3" x 4" and the finished frame is 4.25" x 5.5". The back is a hand silk-screened pattern with the artist's logo.
