"I approach each piece of jewelry as a small kinetic sculpture, with a keen focus on detail. The base metal of my design is sterling silver blackened to a deep grey with the edges sanded back to silver. The pieces are adorned with combinations of pearls, semi-precious stones, and inlays. The mosaic inlays are created from patinaed brass and copper which have been buried for days in a wood-chip mixture to obtain the desired texture and color. Another inlay material is mokume-gane, an ancient knife-making technique fusing layers of silver and copper. The discovery of new techniques and materials remains a constant challenge. All the pieces are then sealed to preserve the finish and, therefore, require little care to maintain their appearance."
