"A lifetime spent in the mountains, forests, and deserts of the West has shaped both my life and art. Biology and botany degrees serve to focus how I view our society and environment. Stone and steel elements in my sculpture represent these views. The stones I collect originate in the most beautiful and austere environments. These stones are placed in various settings of steel illustrating how society views and interacts with our environment. Some settings appear precious and harmonious while others symbolize our industrial and technological impact. The focus of my work is to express my appreciation of nature combining symbols of our ecosystem and society, thereby promoting awareness of issues that mutually affect these connected systems."
